I've had some requests for music by the American composer Earle Brown, but
most of what I have is available on CD. Not being able to offer a full
installment of material, I figured I'd at least make these three tracks
available. They come from a rare, early LP release on TIME Records, in a
series organized by Earle Brown himself. The other side of this LP
features works by Morton Feldman that are available on CD. The LP from
which these tracks were transcribed is in very good condition, but there
is a non-trivial amount of pressing noise. The recording is, however,
nicely detailed.
Two commercial releases that you should check out if you like Earle Brown: New World Records has re-released a collection of CRI recordings of Earle Brown. I have some of them on LP and have ordered a copy of the CD for myself. What I've heard of them are definitely worth getting. It's available here through Amazon USA. VOX/Turnabout has re-released a really excellent 2-CD collection of late 20th-century string quartets that was originally released on 3 LPs in the 1970s. It includes works by John Cage, Morton Feldman, Stefan Wolpe, Jacob Druckman, Earle Brown, George Crumb, and others. The recording quality is decent, the performances are good, and the price can't be beat. It's available here through Amazon USA. 01 - Music for violin, cello, and piano, 1952 [3:10] 02 - Music for cello and piano, 1954-55 [9:20] 03 - Hodograph I for chamber ensemble, 1959 [3:34] Liner notes from LPs |
