AGP113
continues our tribute to Othmar Schoeck with recordings of his two
string quartets, performed by the Neues Zürcher Quartett and
transcribed from a PAN LP (130048). Another recording of these works is
avilable on CD, but this one appears never to have been re-released.
It's a clear, warm recording from 1981. The LP packs almost half an
hour of music per side, so there's mild tracking distortion in the last
couple of minutes of each side, but it's not too bad. And otherwise the
LP is in great shape. Schoeck's string quartets are both mature works
(from 1913 and 1923), and to varying degrees bring to mind the quartets
of Debussy, Zemlinsky, Janacek, and Martinu. To download
