The Avant Garde Project is a series of 20th-century classical-experimental-electroacoustic torrents digitized from LPs whose music has in most cases never been released on CD, and so is effectively inaccessible to the vast majority of music listeners today. This is wild stuff, so check it out if you've never heard this sort of music before. The analog rig used to extract the sound from the grooves is near state-of-the-art, producing almost none of the tracking distortion or surface noise normally associated with LPs. AGP1-122 are now available for direct download in the archive at dream.cs.bath.ac.uk/AvantGardeProject AGP NEWS: Another generous AGP partisan has volunteered to serve as a mirror site for the project, so all AGP installments are now available through the home site and at least one mirror site. This should speed up downloads considerably. ======================================= The Avant Garde Project celebrates its quasquicentennial with a transcription of an out-of-print CD containing two electroacoustic works by Francois Bayle: Vibrations Composées (1973) and Grande Polyphonie (1974). Both works combine acoustic and electronically generated sounds in an absolutely delicious mix. Grande Polyphonie is my favorite work by Bayle and one of my favorite electroacoustic works by any composer. If you enjoy the music in this installment, more works by Francois Bayle can be found at electrocd.com or ina.fr. Be sure also to pick up your copy of the magnificent and reasonably priced 12CD collection of works by Bayle's compatriot and colleague, Bernard Parmegiani. Parmegiani's De Natura Sonorum dates from the same year as Grande Polyphonie and uses some of the same acoustic sound sources. This CD transcription was kindly provided by an AGP partisan in the United Kingdom. The torrent includes a set of JPGs with scans of the CD booklet notes. 01-09 - Vibrations Composées [35:58] 10-20 - Grande Polyphonie [36:22] NOTE: To the best of my knowledge, these recordings are currently out of print. If you know otherwise, please let me know ASAP, as I do not wish any artists to be deprived of the royalties that they so richly deserve.
