AGP140 is another 24-bit LP transcription, featuring the breathtaking electroacoustic work De Natura Sonorum by Bernard Parmegiani. This work is available commercially in a 16-bit, 44.1kHz audio CD made from the original master tapes, as part of an indispensible 12CD collection of electroacoustic works created by Bernard Parmegiani between 1964 and 2007. If you don't already have that collection, please do yourself a favor and buy it without delay. Electrocd is selling it for a mere CA$80 (for 12CDs!) including shipping. The INA website has it for a mere 40 Euros (plus shipping, I assume).

I offer this LP transcription to make a higher-resolution version of the work available (but with the slight tracking distortion introduced by the LP transcription). I haven't tried blind A/B comparisons, but it does seem to me that the 24-bit version has more of a sense of the real presence of the acoustic sounds. This composition is so exceptional that it deserves to be made available in whatever form best recaptures the original sounds. But if you like what you hear, please buy the commercially available versions of this and his other works.

To fully appreciate this transcription, you will of course need a D/A converter that is capable of 24-bit quantization, or you will merely be hearing a 16-bit scale-down. The installment includes a PDF file with scans of the inner cover of the LP, with notes in French.
