The Avant Garde Project is a series of 20th-century classical-experimental-electroacoustic torrents digitized from LPs whose music has in most cases never been released on CD, and so is effectively inaccessible to the vast majority of music listeners today. This is wild stuff, so check it out if you've never heard this sort of music before. The analog rig used to extract the sound from the grooves is near state-of-the-art, producing almost none of the tracking distortion or surface noise normally associated with LPs. AGP1-95 are now available for direct download in the archive at dream.cs.bath.ac.uk/AvantGardeProject ======================================= AGP99 features the work of Iannis Xenakis, a Greek composer who needs no introduction for votaries of the 20th century avant garde. The vast majority of the works by Xenakis in my stacks are available on CD, but I was able to find three that are not. Incidentally, this installment comes to you thanks to a request by an AGP partisan for a transcription of Polla Ta Dhina. And for those of you not familiar with Xenakis: no, the title of the second track is not a typo. The torrent includes a PDF file with scans of the liner notes from the two LPs from which these works were transcribed. CALLING ALL AGP PARTISANS: EMF Media released a CD of Xenakis' electronic music in 2000 that is now out of print and currently unavailable even in used copies. I have some of those works on LP but would love to include a transcription of the CD as a future AGP installment if I can get a transcription to FLAC files. If you have the CD, I can walk you through the relatively simple process of getting those files to me. Also, I had meant to put out a call last week for a transcription of the 2CD set of Alois Kontarsky's 1960s recording of Stockhausen's Klavierstuck I-XI, released on Sony but now out of print. The Klavierstuck are available in other recordings, but Kontarsky's was the first complete recording of I-XI, done in close collaboration with the composer. Please let me know if you have a copy and can transcribe it for the project. 01 - Polla Ta Dhina [7:39] 02 - ST/10-1-080262 [12:11] 03 - Cendrees [23:18] NOTE: To the best of my knowledge, these recordings are currently out of print. If you know otherwise, please let me know ASAP, as I do not wish any artists to be deprived of the royalties that they so richly deserve.
