NOTE: The AGP19 files have been taken down because the composer is working on a 4-CD release of the complete work "Gaku-no-Michi (Les Voies de la Musique)," currently scheduled for sometime in 2007. Further information on that release in the coming months should be obtainable at the websites linked to below.

AGP19 includes five selections from a long electroacoustic work by Jean-Claude Eloy, called Gaku-no-Michi (Les Voies de la Musique), or in English "The Ways of Music". Gaku-no-Michi was realized in 1977/78 at the electronic studio of Radio NHK in Tokyo. The complete work lasts 4-5 hours, of which 5 selections comprising 117 minutes were included in the 2-LP release (Adès 21.005/6).

This is extremely dense, overlaid electroacoustic music, and should I think be played about as loudly as you can take without pain. It is tremendous stuff, with a complexity of inner detail that repays repeated listening.

The included text file contains notes in French from the LP release, being an unedited output of my OCR software, since it would have taken too much time to edit them, given my limited French.

Unfortunately, the text of these notes wass available in both French and an English translation at www.eloyjeanclaude.com, but these seem to be dead now. That site is a rich source of biographical material on Eloy, with lists of compositions, concerts of his works, texts of interviews, and photos. Sound samples of selected compositions can be found at www.eloyjeanclaude.org. Information on published texts by Eloy about his own music and the music of other contemporary composers can be found at www.hors-territoires.com. That site also promises forthcoming CD releases of a number of Eloy's works.

NOTE: The original AGP19 torrent included only selections 1, 4, and 5. Selections 2 and 3 were later added to the archive.
